Renewal cycle

2 years (biennial); APRN licenses renew in even-numbered years, renewal window October 1 – December 31 (e.g., Oct–Dec 2026)

Total CE hours

No fixed general CE hour count for nationally certified APRNs — renewal is based on maintaining current national certification in role and population focus (the certifying body's CE/recertification requirements apply). Legacy APRNs recognized before Jan 1, 1999 without national certification must instead show 60 CE hours plus 400 practice hours per 2 years.

Pharmacology CE

No 15-hour pharmacotherapeutics CE requirement exists in current WSBN rules. Prescriptive-authority applicants must show completion of advanced pharmacology coursework, but there is no recurring 15-hour pharmacotherapeutics renewal requirement — the 15-hour figure cited by vendor sources reflects superseded rules.

Controlled-substance CE

3 hours of CE related to responsible prescribing of controlled substances or treatment of substance use disorders per renewal cycle, required of APRNs holding prescriptive authority (confirmed on the official WSBN renewal page). Federal DEA MATE Act one-time 8-hour training applies to DEA registrants.
