Renewal cycle

RN license renews every 2 years (biennial, by April 30 of odd-numbered years); the APRN 'Document of Recognition' has no separate expiration — it remains valid while the RN license and national certification are maintained

Total CE hours

none beyond national certification — Missouri requires no CE hours for RN license renewal, and the APRN Document of Recognition requires only continuous maintenance of national certification (the certifying body's own CE/recertification requirements apply, e.g. ANCC for PMHNPs).

Pharmacology CE

none for routine renewal. Pharmacology CE matters only for OBTAINING controlled-substance prescriptive authority: under 20 CSR 2200-4.100 the applicant must document an advanced pharmacology course with preceptorial experience (300 clock hours preceptorship), OR 45 CE units of pharmacology within the preceding 5 years, plus 1,000 hours of practice before controlled-substance authority may be delegated.

Controlled-substance CE

No recurring state controlled-substance CE requirement for renewal. Controlled-substance prescriptive authority must be delegated in a collaborative practice arrangement (or via full independent authority for qualifying APRNs after Missouri's 2025 practice-modernization changes for those meeting supervised-practice thresholds — verify current status with the Board). Federal one-time 8-hour DEA MATE Act training applies to DEA registrants and Missouri BNDD registration is required.
